It’s time for a knitalong!! Rachael and Patti found a sock pattern that we are all loving: “Soxploration Shadow Wrap Heel” by Denise DeSantis! Now, I’m sure some of you saw “sock” and thought, “I can’t do that.” First, yes you can. Second, that’s why we all love this pattern so much! The first paragraph of the pattern says “Afraid of knitting socks? Then start here! This simple, full length vanilla sock pattern is designed for the beginner (and fun for the experienced sock knitter too).” This pattern includes specific photos and video tutorial links to make knitting socks as easy as possible!
Now, you know we couldn’t pick out a pattern and not find some gorgeous yarn to go with it! For this “sock”along, we’re suggesting Araucania Huasco Sock Kettle Dyes and Hand Painted, Manos del Uruguay Alegria, Tippy Tree Fingering, and Plymouth Shades of Sockotta. And just to make it more fun, why don’t you use a ball of United Socks for contrasting toes, heels, and cuffs? Here’s a link to all of our favorites for this Sockalong!!
Here are all the “rules” for our sockalong! First, we’re pretty casual and so are our knitalongs. Each newsletter we’ll tell you which parts of the sock we’ll be working on in the next two weeks. If that timeline doesn’t work for you, that’s ok! You can finish your socks in the first week, or work on them next July. Whatever works for you! Second, have a good time! This is a fun project that we knitters can do together. Start with a friend! Let it be your evening TV watching knitting, or your vacation knitting. Third, (not a rule) we’re here for you. Need some cheerleading? Want to make sure you’re doing a stitch correctly? Come see us!
Ready to start??
Here’s part one!
Come visit Wooden Spools, and pick out a skein of yarn (can be any fingering weight yarn, but we really like the yarns mentioned above) and needles. When you purchase a skein of yarn for this project from us, we’ll buy you the pattern! Then get ready for our next newsletter!
