The round yoke sweater and the stranded colorwork technique were made for each other! There are so many beautiful colorwork patterns available, and the basic sweater itself is quite easy to knit, while also offering options for fit customization.

In this class, we will knit a top-down colorwork pullover. We’ll have six colorwork patterns available, and you can choose the new skills that you want to try. First time ever doing colorwork and round yoke sweaters? There’s an easy colorwork pattern for you. Maybe you’ve done some colorwork but never before knitted a round yoke sweater? More complex colorwork patterns are available. Experienced in colorwork but would like to learn more about customizing fit? Yep, we can do that. There will even be info about how to create a steek to turn a pullover pattern into a cardigan.

We will learn about swatching in the round and how to use the swatch to choose the size of sweater to knit. We’ll learn some methods to keep good tension on your colorwork stitches to keep the fabric from puckering. We’ll talk about some options in edge finishes and collar styles, and how to make your sweater longer (while making sure you don’t run out of yarn.

Hybrid Class – attend in-person or via Zoom

“In case of bad weather, we’ll ask students to stay home and attend class via Zoom only.” There are some technology requirements : students should access the video portion of class with something larger than a smart phone, and the device must have both 2-way audio and video, so teacher and student can both see and hear each other well. Students can access class using one device for audio and one device for video. Not sure if your device(s) will work? Ask for a ‘tech check’ and we’ll connect you with the teacher to run a test before you sign up for class. Students should also have a way to view and print PDF handouts.

Prerequisite knowledge

Students should be comfortable with knit stitch and purl stitch, knitting in the round and using DPNs, 2 circs, or magic/traveling loop, cast-ons and bind-offs, increases and decreases, and know the difference between stockinette and garter stitch fabrics.
