ZOOM Knitting 102 – Beyond the Basics – with Michelle Bowman (1/5)
May 18 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Knitting 102: Beyond the Basics!
We will learn several cast-on and bind-off techniques, more ways to increase and decrease, different ways to join new yarn and change colors—and how to decide when to use each technique. We’ll also do an in-depth yarn workshop: how yarn is made, why that matters, and how to choose the best yarn for your project. We’ll talk about the options in needles, and how to build (or limit) your collection. We will knit a hat ‘in the round’ and take a stab at double pointed needles. And, we’ll talk about how to keep building skills so that you can tackle any knitting project you want and expect success! Students should be comfortable with knit stitch and purl stitch; know at least one cast on and bind off method; and know the difference between stockinette and garter stitch fabrics.
This class is taught via Zoom. Class and session length: Class is 5 2-hour sessions, with a 1-week break between sessions 4 and 5.
Prerequisite knowledge: Comfortable with knit stitch and purl stitch; know at least one cast on and bind off method; know at least one increase and decrease method; know the difference between stockinette and garter stitch fabrics.
Ages 15+ can join an adult class.
There are some technology requirements: students should access the video portion of class with something larger than a smart phone, and it’s best if the same device has both 2-way audio and video, so teacher and student can both see and hear each other well. However, students could access class using one device for audio and one device for video. Not sure if your device(s) will work? Ask for a ‘tech check’ and we’ll connect you with the teacher to run a test before you sign up for class. Students should also have a way to view and print PDF handouts.
