Design Your Own Christmas Stocking

“The stockings were hung by the chimney with care…” Stockings are a fun and traditional holiday decoration, and a handmade stocking can be an heirloom gift, used year after year. Making your own is also a great way to explore both sock making and stranded colorwork. Because we’re working with worsted-weight yarn, you get to try these techniques without having to worry about working with tiny yarn or making something that fits. You will design your own Christmas stocking, using a range of fabric and yarn choices. The first three sessions cover the design of your stocking. You’ll learn how to calculate the size of your stocking; choose, alter, and create stitch patterns to fit your stitch counts; and read colorwork charts and chart out your patterns without special charting software. Then, the remaining sessions will cover how to knit your stocking. We’ll cover Fair Isle-style stranded colorwork, and some different methods for knitting heels and toes—great practice for future sock knitting. You’ll also learn how to create and sew in a lining for your stocking.

There are six 2-hour sessions. The first four sessions are consecutive weeks; the last two are spaced two weeks apart.  (See dates below)
