Lacy Summer Cardigan

Taught by Michelle Bowman

6 Sundays  12:30 to 3 pm

June 19, July 3, 10, 17, 31 and August 7

Here’s a sweet little cardigan that will be just right for an evening walk or for indoors when the A/C is cranked up. A top-down raglan, this cardigan has no buttons (though you can add some, if you like) and some easy lace embellishment—great for a first foray into lace knitting and chart reading. Written for DK-weight yarns, the really great part about this cardigan is that you can use any of those soft but low-memory yarns that we normally don’t choose for long-sleeve sweaters, since the sleeves on this one are short- to 3/4-length. In this class, we’ll learn about working with mixed-fiber and luxury yarns, how to get a good fit with a garment that’s meant to be worn open, and how to take a basic cardigan and switch up fabric embellishments like lace designs or cables.

Prerequisite knowledge

Students should be comfortable with knit stitch and purl stitch, knitting in the round and using DPNs, 2 circs, or magic/traveling loop, cast-ons and bind-offs, increases and decreases, and know the difference between stockinette and garter stitch fabrics. This can be a first sweater project for a newer knitter, with all the other prerequisites present.

This is class is presented hybrid-style: you can attend in person or via Zoom. Class will be presented via Zoom only if inclement weather would cancel in-person class.
There are some technology requirements: students should access the video portion of class with something larger than a smart phone, and the device must have both 2-way audio and video, so teacher and student can both see and hear each other well. Students can access class using one device for audio and one device for video. Not sure if your device(s) will work? Ask for a ‘tech check’ and we’ll connect you with the teacher to run a test before you sign up for class.
All students should also have a way to view and print PDF handouts.
