ZOOM: Knitting 101 with Michelle Bowman (3/5)
April 20 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Knitting is both fun and relaxing! It’s a great way to develop eye-hand coordination, and it’s also a wonderful way to develop focus, burn off some nervous energy, and knit away some stress. And, handknit items make great gifts! This class is for the complete beginner and also for someone who’s tried to knit before and needs some help.
Students will build a solid foundation in basic skills: knit and purl stitch; increases, decreases and yarnovers; cast-ons and bind-offs; fixing simple mistakes; knitting garter, stockinette, ribbing, and seed stitch fabrics; and how to read patterns. Some homework time (at least 10 minutes a day) will help the student be more successful. Class projects include coasters and hot pads, a drawstring bag, and a soft toy. Students will take home patterns for all, and can work on as many of these as desired.
This class is taught via Zoom, with an option for an extra one-on-one meeting with the teacher in person or via Zoom.
Class and session length: Class is 5 2-hour sessions, with a 1-week break between sessions 4 and 5. Prerequisite knowledge: None. Ages 15+ can join an adult class
There are some technology requirements: students should access the video portion of class with something larger than a smart phone, and it’s best if the same device has both 2-way audio and video, so teacher and student can both see and hear each other well. However, students could access class using one device for audio and one device for video. Not sure if your device(s) will work? Ask for a ‘tech check’ and we’ll connect you with the teacher to run a test before you sign up for class. Students should also have a way to view and print PDF handouts.
