Knit Your First Sweater with Michelle Bowman (5/7)
February 27 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Can you knit a sweater that actually fits? Of course you can! This class offers a gentle beginning and encouragement into the world of sweater knitting. If you’ve never understood gauge, or are worried that something you make won’t fit, this class is for you. We will learn about and work with gauge and gauge swatches, and we’ll learn how to take measurements and why (and how much) they matter. We will discuss the qualities of yarn that make them better choices for sweaters. We’ll knit the sweater using a relaxed-fit sweater/cardigan pattern that is written for different gauges as well as different sizes, and you’ll be guided through every step of the knitting and construction process. The final class will include resources and advice for continued learning.
Class will be 7 2-hour sessions, with intervals between classes spaced out to give students sufficient time to complete each section of the sweater.
Prerequisites: Student should be very comfortable with knit stitch and purl stitch, and have some knowledge and experience with the following:
— the difference between stockinette and garter stitch fabrics
— increase and decrease methods
— how to count stitches and rows
Experience with shaped projects, such as hats, mittens and slippers will be helpful. If you’re ot sure if you have experience enough to be successful in this class, let us know and we can have the teacher contact you.
